Meet the ION! This was our Regionals STEM Racing car that won 4th Place in the Racing Session and was the fastest car from Illinois! There are two parts to creating a car like this:
We start with designing our car on computer aided design (CAD) platforms. Our Design Engineer, Charlie Geiger, uses the complex platform to come up with our design and make sure that they fit the STEM Racing Rules and Regulations for the competition. These cars need to be precisely designed to ensure that we don't lose any points on Scrutineering. Charlie makes sure of this and spends his time to allow the ION to compete.
Once we have finalized our STEM Racing car, we move onto the manufacturing stage. Firstly we CNC our car out of the STEM Racing Model Block using the machine. It precisely cuts out out body design before our Manufacturing Engineer (Oliver Hammond) sands it, puts the wheels and wings together, and paints it until it is seamless.
